A current project under development in Glasgow is said to run up a cost of 80,000,000 and may be built across the river from the athlete’s village for the 2014 Games in Dalmarnock. The park will be built as 3 distinct biospheres, each with their own climate:
- Polar
- Temperate
- Tropical
These 3 spheres will each house their own variety of animals and plant life. In addition the park will contain a hotel, and a variety of restaurants, gift shops, etc.
Steve Minion, director of Wildside World Ltd, which is behind the development of this project said: “We want to work as part of the wider community and we would like to share our exciting plans with the people of South Lanarkshire and Glasgow and hear their views.
Local town-hall style sessions have already been held for the people of South Lanarkshire and Glasgow; to hear their views and concerns. From a community standpoint, backers have pushed the idea of the increase of both revenue and jobs for the area while also hoping to make it part of the destination for the up and coming games in 2014.
Boyd McFee – director of Wildside’s partners on the project, building and civil engineering firm Sir Robert McAlpine – said: “We are delighted to be working with Wildside to deliver this major new attraction for Scotland and look forward to building on the strong relationships we have established with the community and local businesses.”
