After 66 days at sea, Holiday World finally announced the details of their new themed $22 million ride. The Thunderbird promises a new experience for guests as they are catapulted from 0-60MPH in 3.5 seconds! The nation’s first “wing coaster”, the Thunderbird will include multiple inversions(Immelman Lops) and near-misses with the ground, trees and other rides from the park. Theming of the ride includes breaking into and twisting through a barn. With a zero-g barrel role and a 125ft high loop, this Bollinger & Mabillard design promises to be a great adrenaline-filled addition to the Holiday World line-up.
The goal of the ride and “wing” style is to remove the feel of being on a ride and make riders feel more like they are flying.
With a great marketing plan, making viewers keep up with their 66 days at sea campaign and then building the tension for the day’s release of the ride, Holiday World has gone above and beyond to drum up the hype for this ride which is scheduled to open in the 2015 season. We look forward to checking this one out and hope the theming has enough basis to not just be another Metal Coaster.
