No longer is the lack of ability or distance an excuse to never see Shakespeare in the environment it was written for. The Globe Theatre may be the optimal location to see Shakespeare but how can that be done, in this day and age?
A travelling version of the “Theatre in the Round” (in this case technically octagon) will begin its run in Auckland, New Zealand with plans for a world tour being lined up now.
This “Pop-up” Theatre experience will begin in 2016 and has already begun planning its lineup, etc. The general theme of the theatre is straight out of the original design of the Globe and is intended to bring both the functionality and the general theme of the original theatre in an “as close as possible” set up, for a “Pop-Up style” experience.”
The popularity of this project was so greats that the company cancelled its Kickstarter Campaign and are projected top receive major corporate investment. In a quote from the team on their Facebook page they stated, “Within days of our Pop-up Globe announcement, several significant opportunities have been presented to us by major companies and individuals, each of which has the potential to deliver benefits to the project which exceed the total value of our Kickstarter target. We are extremely grateful for these amazing opportunities.”
